PT 7,012 via South Slopes (5.0)
October 27, 2012
Crew: Ryan M. - Stephanie
PT 7,012 is a small ranked 5th class peak in Boulder county.
Trailhead: There isn't one! Park off of HWY 36 at the coordinates marked on the map below.
Route: Immediately off of 36 there is a gate and a driveway. From the gate the summit is visible to climber's left. Follow the driveway up for a few
switchbacks until it is convenient to head straight uphill toward the summit. The summit plateau is a large outcropping of boulders and navigation
here can be complex. Move around to the eastern side of the summit boulders and work up a small gully system that puts you due south of the
summit boulder. The boulder is the crux of the route and is surmounted on its SE corner via a short (i.e. 5 feet) bit of friction climbing. Enjoy the
views!
Notes: Private property seems to be an issue on this peak. The gate off of the road is not signed, but the slopes to the north of the driveway are. Were we
broke off to hike uphill there were not any signs. There is a house at the saddle between 7012 and 7918 that is clearly visible from the upper slopes.
Take care to make your impact as small as possible. Also, a rope could be useful for a hand-line but is not needed. Sliding down makes the dismount
a breeze.
