Moonlight Buttress - Zion N.P., UT (attempt 5.9 C1+)
The Happy Turk - Kane Creek, UT (C0)
May 27-28, 2011
Noah and I started off the summer with a trip to Zion to attempt the classic Moonlight Buttress. Stuck with a raging river, we were forced to trudge in the long way. We fixed the first 400 feet on the first day and hiked back out. When we returned first thing in the morning we got stuck behind another party making completing the route in daylight impossible. Also, the temps on the rock were close to 100 degrees and we were cooking like eggs in a pan. We'll be back in cooler weather to finish this BEAUTIFUL route.
Then we drove down to Kane Creek and climbed the classy Happy Turk and finished with a minor summit of Shelbyville in the dark. After some late-night dining with the strange crowds in the Moab diner, we camped in Fisher Towers hoping for Ancient Art. Winds howled all night long and made our climb impossible. The winds seemed to blow us all the way to home. The desert never disappoints!
