Grays Peak
June 11, 2006
My friend Adele suggested a post-school hike up Grays Peak and I happily accepted assuming that it would be a piece of cake. Our friend, mentor and expert hiker Ken Singleton laughed at our idea to spend the night at the trailhead and quickly chimed in..."You're going to freeze your asses off!" Of course he was right and everything about the next day proved to be a challenge for us. As we dragged our poorly conditioned selves onto the summit I was hooked. This was my first 14er and the highest elevation I'd ever been to. As we bounced back down the road I found myself already planning my return to the mountains.
